Okay PCPers
We are winding this baby down. I am sure that everyone is writing about how happy they are to finish... not me. I am writing to say how happy I am that I have saved my jeans!!! I found someone that can take my collection in, resize and give them back!! That is great news!
Woke up this morning at 5 to get to the gym and work out with Brent. He was a day behind so I was on my new program, sorry PAT didnt listen to the chill day advice. What a great work out. Legs and Abs and a good 25 minute run. Nice..... starting to build out my next program now and will confirm details by the end of the week. In the meantime I will fight train daily and work out Mon/Wed/Fri to give the body a break. I think this program has really overworked the body but that is a great lesson. Army style... work it to prove that you can work it!
So overall a big fan. Still want the science, need the science and pushing for the science and Pat is saying "chillaxe bro". In my world past or present that would get your ass kicked... but then it is still a balls to the wall program. Yeah... and I would buy Pat that drink before I would top him - but I would still top him. Now have recommended 6 people - 2 are already signed up and I am sure that the other 4 will come.
So my friends I will continue to blog for a couple of days but I want to say " a job well done to all". Team MIGHTY MOUSE... I am happy to have served with you. Brent... you are a soldiers soldier - thanks for the support, push and friendship. Meg... you are more beautiful than ever! Inside and out!
Mighty mouse kicked ass!

Day 89... Time to change the wardrobe
Thats right!
So the final tally for me as we go into the last day...and according to 3 IN BODY machines;
WEIGHT; 74.9 down from 82
Skeletal Muscle Mass; 40.6 ... above the range
Body Fat; 4.5 but i dont believe it... still great to see
And then the little machine spits out a fitness score... total 91
I dont bank on these systems 100% but it is a gauge and one that I am happy with. Now its time to get into the real world! I threw away 3 suits and maybe another. Am getting 5 more taken in. New dress shirts in the making. Went to get my belts re-sized and even checked my casual shirts to get a few taken in. The real bummer... my jeans. Man I love my jeans. I either have to find someone to take them in or I have to go hipster and buy some Calvins. Tough call! One day to go!

Day 88....shopping at the grocery store
Day 88.....
Wow.. what a great indulgence... or does it mean we are at the end of the rainbow and on the home stretch? Last night was Friday and I ended the day in a client meeting that lasted from 430 to 600. We then went out for a drink and even then I didnt indulge. BUT I was meeting a good friend, Stuart, and that was the celebration. While I only had two glasses of wine, and my main course was a Pumpkin and Aspareges salad.... my apettizer was a half portion of BABY BACKED RIBS! I couldnt believe how much I missed them... but then I could not believe how I insisted on not finishing my meal. Portions are just too big! I was sitting across from a man who is going to join PCP... I can feel it... but who is 40k`s too large. A long way to go. And yet with wine and ribs in my system I still felt in control.
The night rolls up at 1030 and I look at my watch... not going to flake now. I hit the gym and am the last one out after a full work out. The science of it was that after my run my stomach stopped feeling bloated and started to relax.
Today... went to the gym and had a fight class. 2 hours in all and it seamed in order. And then the treat. I went to the grocery store and shopped like a normal human being. Veggies, fruit, nofat milk and yogurt, eggs but I added mustard, sun dried tomatoes, olives, crackers, cheese, Italian meats, salad dressing, Silver Bream fish, Pork Loin and WINE. The interesting thing was the meat. The smallest portion I could find and it was still 220-gms. What are we to do? I am going to BBQ it tomorrow no matter what! And I am not going to worry about the grams because I will be eating it with veggies only. So is that where we need to be? Is that the science? Where is the science?
Off to sleep.. to dream...of that grocery store trip where I went isle by isle... and loved it!

Day 75...Yes, it is time for our questions
Day 75...
Well that in itself is amazing. But now we are planning to enter into the real world in another 15 days and my head is spinning with all of the questions I have to ask... so ask I will. Time to hit the question thread but I will outline it here first.
I dont think Brent was questioning your Guru. We all are witness to the power of this program but I think it is fair to start asking questions about the real world and how we can live in harmony with it. With less than 15 days to go I am starting to think about it and finding myself in client dinners again that touch the boundaries of the evil world. I am hoping to learn the plan now so I can build for it. Buddhism has three main philosophies for three different kinds of people... the Big Wheel, the Little Wheel and the Hidden Wheel....So here are my questions;
Diet;
- Temptation. Today we were given an indulgence day of 1000 calories. We know at this stage that a Big Mac is 650 calories and we know that the average non-PCP-er is eating between 2000 to 4000 calories a day. That implies that there is a lot of temptation out there. How do we manage it?
- Start with our PCP Diet... I still do not really understand Chen's magic. What was the secret formula? Patrick said we should all fire him at the end of the program but I want to understand the secret formula and how it relates to me, and in some cases the people around me. Some of it is obvious from the time spent on the program... Eat carbs in the AM and afternoon, but not at night. Carbs are slow release energy so will keep you in even energy through the day. To encourage lean muscle eat protein, especially egg whites, and do this especially after a work out when you need protein to get the muscles to grow. Protein all day long and again before you sleep to rebuild. Once your body is stable and you are not starving it to bring down the fat, eat as many vegetables as you would like. Milk and yogurt are great snack foods and so is fruit. BUT how were all the portions determined? Why do we need to know? Because...of the temptation
- Normal Diet. Walking into City Super or if you are in Japan, National Azabu... you are left with a ton of questions. Food choices are amazing. Vegetables-easy. Meat, Fish, Foul, Eggs-easy until you get into things like sausages that have cheese in them...never again? But then it gets harder. Milk, yogurt and dairy-Are we expected to never have fruit yogurt again or normal milk? And if we do how do we compensate for the increase in fat and sugar? Cereal-never again? Noodles-only whole wheat? Crackers-is there fat free crackers? Cheese-on top of crackers-Cheese...oh I love cheese! Then of course there is the chips, nuts, snacky type food section. Sugar section-guests coming for dinner and you want an ice cream desert? Now what about alcohol...planning to have a bottle of wine with dinner? Beer at a party? Whiskey at the end of a long day?
- Balance. I am sure that we will be having some indulgences during our remainder on the face of the earth so the question is the balance. What is the formula? Chen, speak up. Its not having an indulgence day once a month at 1000 calorie meal. That is not sustainable when our strata of social class is eating way above this every time we eat at a restaurant, friends house, mom`s cooking. So, if I have a good fish dinner with healthy veggies (so far PC-compliant) but serve rice on the side to my dinner guests (carbs at night time!), cheese and crackers before dinner (ouch), 2 bottles of red to capture the moment and ice cream desert - IT BEGS THE QUESTION... how do I now find the balance? Starve myself back to 2 egg/1 apple dinners for 3 days afterward and add 30 min of cardio on to the rest of the weeks work out? Normal eating (which we are now calling an indulgence day) equals what level of diet/exercise to compensate so that we maintain all that we have earned. Yes, I am aware of the 25 year old DNA types that can eat anything they want but that is not us... so what is the maintenance mode required?
- Practical reality.... I was eating a late lunch with a friend the other day and decided to push the envelope a little. We both ordered Fettuchini in a tomato sauce with ham. By the time it came I realized the mistake. There was very little ham (missed my protein target), the tomato sauce was clearly commercial and made with extra salt and sugar, and the pasta was as Pat points out 4x the normal portion (not to mention made from processed flour). I ate very little. My friend guzzled and I felt bad for him... there was nothing of value in that meal! So then what do you do... Go back to the office and order a salad with tuna?
I think you are getting the line of questions that I am focused on. So now....
Training;
- Fitness level. We will all agree that our fitness levels have increased like magic. I use a Heart Rate monitor and have watched the fitness level increase. The interesting question is how to keep it increasing to compensate for the 2 bottles of red mentioned above? An hour work out 2 months ago would burn 650 calories. Now its 500 calories and I am working out harder. Good news, body fitness levels are increasing. Bad news, I need them to continue to increase. Do I isolate my training? Increase time in the gym? Start HIT training? I believe I know the answer but I want some more details that are in line with the 15lbs Pat has already helped me burn off...and thanks for that Pat, I am a big fan of PCP.
- Rest. Back to the HR monitor... it has told me for 5 weeks now, at the end of every week, that my "training is incomplete - rest week needed". We know that we need sleep but now that the program is almost finished and we are coming back to reality, dont we also need rest days for the body to recover? In the Army I even had a rest day with no PT.
- DNA. Pat has highlighted that we may not have gotten to where we want to in our body sculpting goals. One thing to do is have a normal few months (based on a normal diet, which I dont yet understand) and then hit it again to try to get that 6 pack. He also mentioned that we may not get that 6 pack. I didnt get my 6 pack but I feel great and look trim as hell so am happy. But, I still want to try to get that 6 pack. And yet I may not be able to get one and I am happy if that is the case but I have to give it one more try. I pulled out old photos of my old man when he was in his 20's. No 6 pack and he was a university footballer, runner and skier. Maybe its in my DNA but I am going to give it one more try. How do we prepare for this second push?
So again my apologies for asking these questions now, and so many, but frankly speaking I am thinking about them now. I am already planning to stock my refrigerator, fill the cabinets and increase the wine celler. Yes, I will buy whole wheat pasta, organic peanut butter, fresh food but - to be honest, my life LOVES Cheese, Corn Chips, Nuts, Whiskey and Wine (and I am happy that I only crave these foods and not sugar). How can I make sure that I get that balance and keep my both my corn chips and my lean muscle mass?
14 days and a wake up to go....

Day 53...and a binge day it was!
Okay team...
In my last blog I complained about the residual fat. Today i am going to admit how I made it worse.
So the sad news is that I buried a family member on Thursday and we held the wake today. It has been a rough week of preparation and review and yet I have held steady. The family is tough and they helped make it easy. Then I get that crazy email from Patrick saying that we get a little food vacation. Mind you this is as I am hitting both diet and training targets while being on the road... prepping eggs and eating alone at dinner... and after I complain about the fat that still sits around my waste... so what do I do? Toast my lost friend and hit it!
Friday lunch:
- 1 beer
- 4 chicken wings
- Cobb salad with blue cheese
....my guess is ~450/600 calories
Today's lunch:
- 2 beers
- half a bag of almonds
- half a bag of corn chips
- two bites of ice cream (peanut butter cup and cookie dough)
....my guess is ~750 calories
Now the confusion... I am at JFK in NYC and its midnight. Flight is in an hour. So for dinner tonight I treated it like lunch and had sushi.... carbs from white rice! I figure I will stay up for the first 8 hours on the flight and then sleep the second putting me in line for Monday am arrival at 5am. That means that I completely missed Sundays work out.
My solution is to do Sunday work out on Monday and combine Monday and Tuesdays work out on Tuesday... going to be a long week. But then next week I am in Nippon and get to catch up with the love of my life...always a silver lining!
Now back to the food... Well I was definitely aware of what I was eating. I thought about it but continued straight in based on Patricks push...although I admit that I over did it by at least 1000 calories. So how did it feel?
- Chips and nuts... first were way to salty and I think I went too far
- Wings.... great!
- Beer...very cold and very good! Even though I am not a beer drinker
- Blue cheese... unnecessary
Overall the binge still made me very happy.
Now back to the gut busting and the promise to go kick Brents ass this week at least twice!
Good luck team!

DAY WHAT????... I dont even know
So... I am in the States and the rest of team Mighty Mouse is in Asia so I guess I am officially a day behind. That being said I have had a good work out today and training and food remains relatively on target. NOW HERE IS THE PROBLEM.....t
I have lost over 10 pouns so far and am way below my target....and yet the belly fat remains. What gives! What is that all about? Discouraging to say the least. Do I need to do more?? V FAT remains and this is not at all cool..... no see through, no slight glimpse... just the rest of the body is in line and the belly fat is tsill obstructing the view.
Any ideas? Cut out all carbs? More Sit ups? Come on people....

Day 43...NYC is one FAT place!
I have always loved getting back to the city. NYC is where I was born and raised. Great place, great energy, great mystery - not to mention great food... but now I see it with these frosted glassed - its great FAT. Everything is about getting fat... the large meals, the processed food, the snacks and cookies and candies and fat people walking around. A new view and its FAT

Day 37...and Fell off the wagon
Yep, that's right...
Today was the day I broke the pattern. By the end of the day I had consumed 1 glass of Red Wine, 1 whiskey on the rocks, 1/3 of a beer because by the time I got the beer I really couldn't be bothered. All a post birthday celebration with 3 friends... On top of that there was a Jalapeno popper, 1 chicken wing and at least three hand fulls of toasted almonds.
The only thing I am actually missing in my diet is the nuts! Figure that one out. Anyway... was feeling and about myself as I left LKF at 2100 so I picked up the phone to call Brent. When he answers I can barely understand a word he said... and I don't think he could either. Now that is a great friend. I go off the rails and he goes off the rails harder - felt better already!
Time to get back to the program and get rid of that stubborn fat that doesn't seam to go away!

Day 36... Sleep
Bring it back!
Still having issues with my sleep! 1 out of 3 nights I suffer from sleep deprivation and that just throws the whole thing off track. Last night was another difficult sleep.
- I work out at 0545am so its not a late night work out
- I have my snack at least 90 minutes before I sleep
- I stretch every night before sleep
- I often meditate
...now going to try aspirin to get my body to relax more.

Day 33...Veins in my head!
Yo Pat... so you said that veins would become more pronounced when we started the program.... yeah mate well they are popping out of my sleek bald head!!! I look like a killer on the prowl. Either that or a very angry Yul Brenner.
Day 32...Team Mighty Mouse
Caught up with Team Mighty Mouse today! Great meeting you all! Justin, Fergus, Terri, Meg and me... Well we are now on the rope! 2 more months to go and that banquet we mentioned will be waiting for us! Bring it on.
Patrick, you gotta get some videos going on the exercises... maximum impact required and it was clear during our conversations that there is 5 ways to see a painting!

Day 31...Hangin with a PCP'r
Great day all around... Meg arrives from Japan and we are straight off to the gym. No time to even go home and drop off bags. We get through a bang session and it is clear that she needs a little coaching on the exercise. This comes up again when we meet Team Mighty Mouse on Saturday....
Anyway... Rush home in time to drop off stuff and go out to a friends surprise birthday party. A night of partying on fizzy water! And we did... all three of us. While at the dinner we start talking to mad man Eddie... and find out that he is on the PCP as well.... so no chance to cheat! Like we would anyway! ;) Told you Eddie ... no reporting from me!
The night goes to 0130 in Wan Chai when we decide to go home. Great night and one that was only on Bananas, Apples and fizzy water. All you "my right pinky hurts" pcp'ers - eat your heart out!

The night goes to 0130 in Wan Chai when we decide to go home. Great night and one that was only on Bananas, Apples and fizzy water. All you "my right pinky hurts" pcp'ers - eat your heart out!

Day 28... Spicy Crab
Its all about the portions!
I thought I was doing so well.... Tonight was a colleagues birthday... same guy I took the exam with yesterday. So what does the team decide to do... go to Causeway Bay for some "Under the Bridge Spicy Crab"... Well that blew it. I clearly overate my portions. Not intentional and no carbs... but I feel real full. Also the garlic sauce has mega salt in it and I can see my ship sinking.
I get out of the restaurant, call Meg and she tells me.... "guess what... your dinner menu for the next week has 1 apple, 1 banana and an egg white on it" Ahhhh.... PCP to keep me straight.

Day 27... Exam Celebration
I passed.... The exam was a pain and a waste of space at the same time. If you can say that! Anyway I was lucky in that I was taking the exam with a colleague and good friend so when the test was done and we got our results - we both passed, we decided to celebrate!!
Off we go to the gym, I do an extra hard run and more ab exercise. Take a shower and off to Staunton Cafe. The waitress comes over and its time to celebrate!!!
"Sir, what would you like to order?"
"I would like a very tall glass of Grapefruit juice with a side glass of ice"
The best juice I ever tasted!

Day 27...Exam Cram
So I have been incognito for the last four days. Friday to Today has seen me studying for the HKG Securities Paper 1. 4 days of 12 hour study... and guess what... when you are studying like that the only time to focus on food is when you eat what you packed. Good news is that I have been packing all my meals so portions have been right. Also gym time has been good as well.... concentrated and good technique. I have moved into weights to supplant my exercises and I like it. Bands are cool too but weights are my familiar "food". So overall...good training except...
Oh yeah forgot. On Saturday, one of my colleagues invited me to his house. An Indian house. For dinner. They knew I was on a diet so the food was easy but the stomach was not ready for the spice in the food. By evening time... she was not so happy with me. Ahhhh.... live and learn.

Day 23....Bad sleep
Okay...am not sure why but for some reason I could not get any sleep last night. Any is a strong word. Got to bed at 2100 expecting a full 8 hours and simply tossed all night. I guess it didnt help that the typhoon was rattling my patio doors and gates throughout the night but I turned on the aircon to drown out the night noise and still sleep was rubbish.
I wake up in the morning with a sore throat! I was PISSED. The last thing I need is to get sick. Went into the gym for my early AM workout a little late and decided not to jump/run to keep the throat safe and comfortable. Rubbish of a day.
PCP....60%, no cardio and lunch and dinner were out...where the weight scale gets fuzzy!

Day 20...Morning Work Outs!
Mornings are the way to go.
So today was the turn of a new leaf. I got my butt out of bed at 0500 and was in the gym by 0545 for a morning work out! Wow... what a difference. Had my work out finished by 0635 and was in the office by 0700 for the start of the day!
Its all about conditioning. When I lived in Japan I woke up at 0500 every day and that was only six months ago. What took me so long to get back into it! This rocks! Thanks Brent!
PCP...100% a good all around-er and packed all three meals into the office ...perfect measurement.

Day 19...Yep, I got my butt kicked!
Team - I need to admit the truth. Brent kicked my butt today. Not gracefully, nor without us flipping into some gym equipment.. but he did it none the less.
One of the main reasons I am doing PCP is to get back into fighting shape. I was in fighting shape as recently as last October but then I started a new job, moved to HKG, renovated a flat in HKG, managed a dying family member, fell in love, and of course... slacked off on my fight training. So now I am back in the swing and today was a great morning.
Up early... off to PURE, get in my PCP work out and then shadow box and drills with Brent. He has been regularly fighting so I was left playing catch up. I will get there... and soon.... especially cause he has no technique... but today...Brent kicked my butt!
PCP....100% First 100% Great work out, measured food, and an extra fight session....
Extra... 45 min of fight session

Day 18.....All you can eat and drink for HKD500?! WHAT THE....
Yep that is right! Brent and I were way beyond stupid last night. Not only stupid but what a great way to waste an evening. Go to a friend of a friends good bye party where you can get all the booze and pizza you want for HKD500. So there Brent and I are sitting at the edge of the gaggle drinking water and watching people get drunk! Real fun. NOT. On top of that Brent and I went to the GYM right before the gaggle so we had all our stinky gear in a bag with us!
This is like real torture and I am not doing it again. Not while I am on the PCP. Going back to my Blog on the 12th... the way to do this is as a hermit! Tendai Mikkyo Buddhism here I come!
PCP.... 95% of target. I missed 3 reps on one exercise.

Catch up - Day 16...Exams suck!
Am taking my 4th Securities exam in two weeks and have to go to this Kaplan course. You would think it would be easy by now but the US, AUS and Japan tests are all different! Ahhhhh. So this lady leading the course is uber good but what the hell are you doing teaching people the crib note version of an exam when you have a degree from MIT. Anyway...
I got out of the course at 10, rushed home to train and that is just simply a DRAG! Yes, a real DRAG! On top of that I SUCK AT JUMP ROPING. I can run the hell out of most people but this rope thing is annoying! Keep at it you say... yeah yeah yeah. Still dont agree with Patrick on effect of rope vs. other things... but then I have POLAR on my side and he doesnt. Will get to him later on this one.
PCP... today at 90%

Catch up - Day 15... Happy Birthday
A birthday celebration...
So if yesterday was a struggle, today was a celebration... or so society tells us! My father was never a fan of celebrating any birthday or holiday. Ever! I tend to follow in suit. Who really needs an excuse to celebrate with good friends. I dont. Especially when it simply means that I am getting older... and that sucks! Or is 40 the new 30 - who is the arse that came up with that statement!
So I go to the gym and get a good workout! Then off to GOLD at LKF tower... Harlen,s new restaurant. For anyone who knows Harlen - amazing chef but the guy is about to die. Very overweight and you can be mesmerized by the bags under his eyes! Holy cow.
Great night nonetheless as I was lucky to be out with my three closest friends in HKG... Brian, Brent and Mark. And the funny thing is these three could not be any more different! Brian leading the pack and bringing out the best/worst of my NYC upbringing!
Anyway the only violation was ..... only is the wrong word.... maybe three glasses of Chianti, two whiskeys after dinner, a cigar.... but as for the meal itself... Steak and veggies with some pasta. Portions may have been off a little or a lot but everything was fresh and nothing was processed. Okay who am I kidding....
PCP - got it in and that in itself puts me at 90% so then subtract the food violations and I am at 65%.

Catch up - Day 14... A personal loss
Now I am in catch up mode so am planning to write out a few blogs in one go. Its been a long and hard week and the only shame of it is that it has been hard because of life and her many lessons and not due to the PCP. I lost a vert close family member on this day. It has been a long time coming so it was not a shock to the system but it still was a hit. Solace comes in knowing that he is watching me now daily rather than simply putting advice on the wires for us to share.
PCP... at about 80% of where I want it to be.

Day 12... Home at Last
Basically I have been on the road since we started PCP. That is not exactly true as I had 36 hours in HKG last weekend but now I am back in town for several weeks and looking forward to it. No more carting my scale out to restaurants... but then no more restaurants either.
The funny thing about this process is really the temptations that come your way. Onsen food in Japan, Beautiful steak dinner with a client, being bumped up to first class.... all to remind you that the best way to do this is to be a hermit for a few months and get to know your inner self.
Food ready for the morrow and now the debate is do I do my training before work or after. For fat burning efficiency I believe that a morning session on an empty stomach is the best way to travel. But then when you have to get up at 0530 anyway... who wants to get up earlier, raise your metabolism and then sweat all the way into work.
As for the food thing... and all the food debates on our chain. I guess I am just plain lucky... I really dont care if what I am eating during this period is interesting. Chicken patties, steamed vegies, and pasta every meal will do.
Off to rest... although it wont be the required 8 hours. Good luck fellow PCPers

Day 9 Its not fatigue its a day for yawning....
Day 9
Just back from the gym and on my way to a client meeting. I have been jumping between doing the workouts in a circuit and doing them straight sets by exercise. The mighty polar watch that I take with me everywhere has now shown me an interesting light... If I train by circuits... it reads "Maximal performance inproving". If I train in straights sets it reads "fat burning achieved".... Ummmmmmm interesting.
Having a problem during the day with yawning and sudden waves of sleepiness. Not fatigue but real old fashioned sleepiness... like I could lay down and go to sleep. Weird is the way that I would describe it although I am living under my base level sleep range right now at 5 to 5.5 hours a night. Still unusual.

Day 8
Well I have missed a couple blog days due to work travel into Japan. A lot going on. Having said that I seem to be on track. Today I got my diet late in the game but am making up for it. It is a lot of food... that is surprising! Again, work outs are fine but now that we have to weigh our food it gets daunting. Many questions... not about what to eat: is a tomato a fruit or a veg, what is the value of Soy, nuts for fruits... My questions are more along the lines of the theories behind what we are doing and what the diets are based on?? - my age, weight and a photo? What about body measurements and habits?
Best part of the day... I got to work out with Meg on her exercises. It was a late day but it was great to see her push the envelope. Now to set up twitter!

Day 4
Just erased a real pissy blog. Lets just say its been a bitch of a day with flight delays, system crashes, unpacking and the rest... off to do my work out to keep the head sane before I break something!

Day 2.5/3.0
Never made it to HKG. Missed my connection in Rome and got stuck for a day. Now 0345am and just finished my Day 3 work out. Spent yesterday by the Spanish steps and the Pantheon and now up to field calls for the Asian Trading day. Food discipline is fine but am frustrated about all my moving around. Am in Tokyo next week as well....

Day 1 for me and morning of Day 2 for you!
So I am at Kenedy airport getting ready to board an American Airlines flight to Rome and then CX to HKG. Its going to be a LONG day. Was able to get through the first work out easily but saved the push ups for the lounge...was rather funny actually! Day 2 is going to be a bit harder... can do pushups, lunges and ab work on the aisles of the plane but jump rope will have to wait for the 90 minutes between landing and my connecting flight. Ahhhh this is going to be fun!
As for the diet.. .shrink the stomach to get you back on track. Easy enough on this side.
